You will need two files:

KeyCleaner-v1.4.zip

and

IdStorageManager-v1.3.zip

Extract both programs to your GAME150 folder, then on your PSP start up KeyCleaner and have it patch the broken keys. More than likely this will fix 90% of the keys minus two of them. If 0x0041 or 0x0045 is still messed up, you can use the second program, IdStorageManager, to manually create new keys for your PSP.

Looking back on last year’s post, we only missed three games that didn’t have a 2009 release date. Fortunately, Kingdom Hearts:Birth by sleep is already released in Japan so a US (English) release date isn’t going to be far off. The remaining titles are Parasite Eve: 3rd Birthday and Final Fantasy Agito XIII but sadly, it seems that they won’t be appearing this year either so they’re back on this list under the Games we want to see in 2010 category.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Currently a Japan-only release, Kingdom Heart: Birth by Sleep explores franchise’s prequel with three new characters Terra, Aqua, and Ven. Expect more keyblade and disney action with this highly anticipated title!

No word on the English release but it’s probably not very far off, the latest would be next year but let’s hope that Square-Enix doesn’t take too long with localization

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

It’s just what the PSP as a platform needs, another Metal Gear Solid game!

Peace Walker is the unofficial sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and is expected to be out in May. As another Hideo Kojima work, need it more introduction?

Valkyria Chronicles 2

Valkyria Chronicles is a surprise but pleasant hit for the PS3. Fans of the game (and PS3 owners) are probably pissed off that the sequel went straight tothe PSP instead of maintaining it’s presence on it’s bigger brother (this is probably due to the lower than expected sales but that’s just my speculation). Nonetheless,Valkyria Chronicles 2 is expected to bring the rock solid gameplay of the original along with a new cast of characters.

Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake

Another PS3 hit coming to the PSP.

Our portly, cel-shaded herione gets a whole new game so expect more bloody and gory battles (if but less pixels btw) over to the PSP. Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake gets six new levels (including all levels from the original PS3 game). Of course I’m pretty sure the feature that most people will look into would be the Adhoc multiplayer . Fat Princess supports upto 8 players in (4 vs 4) multiplayer mode. Food fight anyone?

Dante’s Inferno

While there’s much expectations of the game, careful not to put your hopes too high. It’s an EA game. Nonetheless, Dante’s Inferno looks to be an interesting game.

God Eater

Anime + Monster Hunter = Win right? Well that’s the current formula Namco is trying to cash in with God Eater and from the get go, it looks like it’s a winner.

The Japanese demo is already available (and has been downloaded a million times since it’s release on November last year) via the Japanese PSN Store so be sure to download it to test it out. Meanwhile, try one of the links below to get free ISOs and other PSP goodies.

Games we want to see in 2010

No, these games haven’t been confirmed for release, much less been reported as actual work progress. Yes, they shouldn’t be here but admit it, you know you want to see these games on the shelves (or the PSN Store in this case) and SOON.

Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday

Again, very little info is known about the game but that’s what makes hopeful fans tick no? Just like an FF7 remake. The Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday is one of those games that fans hold their collective breath for.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII

Square has made it clear that the current technology for the PSP won’t be able to handle Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Imagine Crisis Core but you control multiple characters (similar to FF XII). Here’s to hoping that the game gets released before the PSP2 even goes on radar.

Resident Evil Portable

I’ve wanted to keep RE out of this list for the longest time but since RE 5 has been released for both the PS3 and the 360 and no other incoming title under the franchise, I think it’s the best time for Resident Evil Portable to appear on radar.

No official information about the game (just like the two above) has been released except for the E3 announcement. All that’s about the game is that it’s a full-on survival horror game and built specifically forthe PSP. Feel free to start speculating

Important Notes:

This guide is for non-hackable PSPs. (PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3). If you’re not sure what PSP you have, please read: Is my PSP hackable?

On this guide, we will help install 5.03 GEN-C on your PSP. There is no danger of bricking your PSP unless you deviate from the instructions listed below. Unlike custom firmware for hackable PSPs, the danger of bricking your PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA-088v3 is quite real. If you’re not sure about a step, take the time to post a question.

Do note that if you have official firmware 5.50 or higher installed, stop now. You can’t install the chickHen hack which means you can’t install 5.03 GEN-C.

It’s admittedly a hit or miss bypass since not all games relied on checking a version.txt file to see if you were running the right firmware version. If reluctant to (or in the case of PSP-3000 owners can’t) upgrade your firmware, here’s a bypass that will let you play games that require the latest firmware version.

If you’re looking for this on the web, people refer to it as the version.txt hack or version.txt for short. People can be lazy with names it seems.

Important Note: Obviously for this to work you need to have custom firmware installed. Check out my guide on How to install custom firmware and jump back here.

Important Note: If you want a more reliable way of getting your games to work use the Game Decrypter. Note that this is only for PSPs with 5.00 M33, 5.50 MHU, 5.50 GEN-A, 5.50 GEN-B, 5.03 GEN-A and 5.03 MHU.

Requirements:

A PSP with any any of the following custom firmware versions installed:

5.00 M33 (if you have the subsequent patches M33-2 to M33-6, that’s fine too)

5.03 Gen-A for PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 w/ TA-088v3 motherboards

CFWEnabler for PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 w/ TA-088v3 motherboards

How to make your PSP think it has 5.50 firmware:

Enter the configuration menu and find the set the following:
If you’re on 5.00 M33:

Turn off your PSP and holding the R trigger when turning it on.

Go to Configuration > XMB USB Device and change it from Memory Stick to flash0

Go to Use version.txt and select the option to enable it.

Go to Back > Exit to restart your PSP

If you’re on 5.03 GEN-A or Custom Firmware Enabler:

Press and hold select on your XMB

Go to Use version.txt and select the option to enable it.

Connect your PSP to your PC

Important Note: Be careful with this step. You are editing flash0, it’s where the firmware of your PSP resides. If you delete or modify anything aside from version.txt you will BRICK YOUR PSP. Be very careful.

Browse your PSP and go to folders VSH > etc. Inside you should see a version.txt file.

Right-click the version.txt file and uncheck the Read-Only property.

Open the version.txt file. You will see:

Easy right? Risky but yes, it is easy. I’ll update the post with an automated version.

Special thanks to Dark Alex for adding the version.txt feature in his 5.00 M33 release and to Enrick for the heads up

Do note that not ALL games that require the latest firmware will run with this method. There’s rumor that the Japanese version of Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny requires OFW 5.55 and directly bypasses this method. Also, some games have been programmed with anti-cfw measures. Check out this list of games that block custom firmware for updates. I’ve indicated which games can be played by using this method.

What exactly does the XGEN Updater do?

Flash Install CFW 5.50 GEN-D - installs custom firmware 5.50 GEN-D, everything will start automatically. This will bring you the latest firmware GEN, with all the benefits it provides (Playstation Store access, access to some of the latest games etc …)

Flash Install 5.50 OFW - This option allows you to install the official firmware 5.50.
Install any flash sony OFW- install any firmware official 3.XX to 5.XX, but at your own risk, because you lose all the benefits of a custom firmware and you will NOT go custom firmware if you do not have a kit Despertar del Cementerio XGen or Pandora. To use this option, copy the eboot file of any official firmware version you want to flash to the root of your memory stick and rename it to EBOOT.PBP.

Inst all XGEN PANDORA - converts a kit despertar del cementerio V8 kit XGEN Pandora. If you install Updater XGen on a Memory Stick with Despertar del Cementerio V8, it will be converted to XGen Pandora. XGEN Pandora (you need a Pandora battery for this) will allow you to flash any PSP (except TA-v883 and PSP-3000) directly 5.50 GEN-D.

Important: DO NOT attempt to install this on PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA088v3. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PSP IF YOU DO.

FAQ:

Why is there another 550.pbp there? Doesn’t the XGEN updater have one already?

Backup. If you encounter an error using the XGEN updater, replace the 550.pbp on your memory stick with the one included here.

What are the differences between XGen Updater and XGen Pandora?

The differences between these two utilities is that XGen Updater will directly install the custom firmware: 5.50 GEN-D on the console. XGen Pandora will only update the kit Despertar del Cementerio v8 to install it on 5.50 GEN-D when used (instead of 5.00 M33).
